We Can Do Better
Submitted by Sudhama on Sat, 01/14/2012 - 07:27A video showing US Marines urinating on dead Taliban soldiers in Afghanistan came to worldwide media attention just this month. Apparently, the dead Taliban soldiers were killed by the US soldiers. At this point it is not known what precisely the video was intended for, outside of demeaning the Taliban fighters. Not much is publicly known about the US soldiers themselves, but from the video they appear to be young and obviously not thinking clearly.

Why Can't We Have That In Our Country?
Submitted by Sudhama on Sat, 12/03/2011 - 07:51Often when the idea of America comes to the minds of most people one of the first things thought of is freedom. Around the world for many years that is what we have been the symbol of. We were known as the nation that came to the defense of people that had their rights trampled upon by oppressive governments. We were thought of as a nation that would fight for the rights of others. America's leaders, no matter where on the political spectrum they fell, would denounce crack downs on freedom of speech and other liberties considered basic human rights both here and elsewhere. We would fight to have the international community impose sanctions on nations or governments that denied their people a voice, to get them to allow basic human rights.

Submitted by Sudhama on Tue, 10/25/2011 - 08:03As wars rage around the world for oil, natural gas and lithium among other things we sit at home wondering why all the lives and money is wasted while the economy forcefully widens the chasm between America's rich and poor. As protests spread from state to state and go global we hear the all too familiar three words from politicians “I get it.” They are among the first signs from certain politicians and their parties proving the exact opposite is true. As jobs become harder to find, politicians launch and extend conflicts meant to enrich wealthy corporations overseas all the while bringing us stagnation and regression back home. Oh that's what they meant by change.

How Far Do Traditional Family Values Extend?
Submitted by Sudhama on Sat, 09/17/2011 - 08:25Whenever we hear of family values within the context of politics we think of people adhering to morals and values growing out of traditional religions and the conservative end of the political spectrum. At least that's typically the case in our country. The politicians we think of are people saying they are guided more than in a minor, abstract or detached way regarding the decisions they make, by their personal faith and religious beliefs. They say these convictions provide a compass with respect to the decisions they make on everything from how to deal with other nations to basic domestic policy.
